Is Alaska car insurance
required?Liability
coverage, the only type of Alaska car insurance you must
purchase, protects you from claims made by others when
you are at fault in an accident.
Liability includes two types of
protection: bodily injury (BI) and
property damage.
Bodily injury pays for medical
costs, loss of income and funeral costs associated with
others who are injured or killed as a result of your
negligence. Alaska requires you to insure for
$50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident in
bodily injury liability.
Property damage covers the cost of
repairing or replacing others' property damaged through
your negligence. The state of Alaska requires you to
carry at least $25,000 in property damage per
accident.
Experts recommend purchasing
higher limits of both bodily injury and property damage
than what the state requires. How much of each type of
Alaska car insurance you need depends mostly on the cost
of medical treatment and vehicle repair in your area.
